guys@consolidated.net - 28 Aug 2008 07:40 GMT In 1951 while in the Army I had a layover in Washington.
A black cab driver wanted to take several of us GI's on a tour of Washington. Best buy I ever made.
While near the White House and Blair House he explained the president is a figure head. The county is run by the mass of unknown people in the mass of offices in the city and the lobbyist with the money.
These people are not elected.
It was common talk during the Eisenhower years --the one to talk to get action was Charlie Wilson, the head of General Motors.
Charlie Wilson was not elected.

General Motors dominated the car busness then. The salary ratio from the top to bottom was much less then.
The country was growing at a fast rate then.

Then, you proceed to post things which have absolutely nothing to do with diabetes.
If you have a problem with the government, please vent your frustrations on the many NGs and message boards devoted to such topics.

OTOH, it is pretty darned obvious this thread has nothing to with diabetes. If you are only interested in threads that are confined to diabetes you may want to pay closer attention to the subject lines.

I've just opened MHD & ASD, and today like other days lately, I continue to find posts that are not about diabetes & are not in support of people with diabetes, that are instead about the world in general, and they simply need to be marked 'OT ' or 'OT/ '. I will add that in here.

The politics I post here are on health care or to throw cold water on the overdone political nonsense.
The diabetic problem will never be solved by big mouth demanding people doing a good job of perverting a diabetic information group.
Any here for personal.satisfaction purposes should go over where the child molesters hang out and the mass of trash issues are discussed.
The health care problems will not be solved by the basket weaving degree or the terminal campers sucking on a bottle of booze.
Technically competent people are humbled by their understanding of the limitation of the human.
Ben, I am being aggressive because this should be said. I have nothing to lose.
How dare you ding my cold water, anti political posts.when the group is flooded by the whore nonsense.
To mentally disturbed people with a personal agenda ---that have found a group to have a ball nipping at others for personal satisfaction.
Mister, I have had serious problems and do know the misuse of these groups helps no one. If the trash had not had their way in this world we might further along with solving health care issues.
Decent health care is not a political problem but a moral issue. Politics is a tool to implement a decent system.
The communists used to teach that the difference between a dog and human is that a human will work for the good all humans. A dog does not have the rights of a human. What does that make a body that exploits others??
I am very pissed because of the gross misuse of the intent and charter of these groups. and the covert misuse of a "group for all". I can say it sand will say it.
The efforts to shut me up, so some can have a party is far from proper. I would never have piped up because I am very tired but I be damned if some drunken bully picks on me give them satisfaction..
Chung is so far ahead of a lot that make fun of him.
The goal is to make some uncomfortable since they are easily targets. they can pass it out but cannot take it.
God forbid that they share anything.

Do you get the jokes, etc. that Loretta send out via email? I don't believe she has posted here for quite some time.
I got involved in the political debate just for kicks and giggles. We haven't had a good argument here for long time.
I am pretty much recovered from my emergency surgery they did on June 29th. The surgeon took out a piece of my upper intestine about 3 or 4 inches long. He said it was plugged with food. When I asked why he said I was very dehydrated when I went to the E.R. on my doctor's recommendation. I asked him if he only took out a piece that short why was the incision nearly ten inches long. He said he wanted to look at the rest of my gut to make sure it was alright. Those were the longest most miserable eleven days of my life that I can remember and pray I never have to through anything like that again. On the other hand, I am very grateful to be here and to know I am improving. Laurie has me walking on the treadmill at least once a day and wants me to increase it to twice and to increase the time and the speed. She has been absolutely wonderful to me through this whole ordeal so I do that best I can to do what she wants to increase my strength and stamina.
Take care my friend and be well.

Grandpa Chuck - 29 Aug 2008 21:09 GMT >Great to see that you are recovered & still your old onery self. Did the >Iowa floods affect you???? Not directly since we live on the top of a hill. They have said that over 800 homes are ruined beyond repair. It did effect a number of our friends. Some have been able to repair the damage, but one good friend's house was filled with water up to the ceiling. He lost all of his furniture including his furnace, water heater, all appliances and the kitchen cupboards. He has stripped the house down to the stud including the siding and windows because of damage and mold. He is really hoping that either the city or FEMA will buy him out. The place he has worked for over 26 years, Souvenir Pen and Pencil was completely flooded too. They started to move the machinery back that they had taken to factories they own in Wisconsin and Minnesota when they found out that neither their insurance company nor FEMA were going to reimburse them. They told the freight haulers to turn around and take it back where they had picked it up. After they complete the clean up they are going to close the place down and not reopen it. He says he may just collect unemployment while he weighs his options and decides if he even wants to stay in Cedar Rapids.
He, like a lot of those directly effected, has been fighting the anger and depression that comes because of such a loss.
He gave us a Yucca plant and some Hostas he'd planted around his house many years ago.
Laurie has to drive through one of the areas hardest hit by the flood when she goes to and from work. About 20 blocks from where we live there is a house that is halfway out in the street and has been ever since the flood. The devastation is unbelievable to anyone who has never seed the after effects of this kind of flooding.
We feel that we are very fortunate. So many families have lost everything. They say it was a once in 500 year flood. Let us hope it is another 500 years before anything like this happens again.
Ben, how have you been doing these past months?

Thanks for your description Chuck, glad you're OK but Mother nature certainly reminds us who is the real boss; never wise to forget her. Sorry to hear about your friends.
I know exactly what that's like, I grew up in a flood town, Grafton NSW; as a teen I once spent the night with a crew in a boat rowing our streets to break into houses and lift furniture and goods above the waterline. Another time I came home on leave and had to wade, then swim, home. We learned to live with them; but we never enjoyed them and houses in flood areas had no insurance.
Best wishes for your friends, and for your own quick recovery.
